Moving from resistance to acceptance – following your calling
Sometimes the thing you resist most is exactly what you are meant to be doing.
In this video, I talk about the lessons we can learn about resistance from James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise (no, I’m not a trekkie – never watched a single episode, but I saw the movie) and the lessons I learned about my own journey in a remote village in Kenya. I also invite you to join me in the talking circle. Watch the video to find out just what conversation is going on in the talking circle.
Once you’ve watched the video, grab the talking stick, leave a comment, or write something in your own blog about what you’ve been resisting and what steps you might be taking toward acceptance.

Hi, I'm Heather Plett. I'm excited that you've stopped by to learn more about how we can make the world a better place through the sharing of our gifts and creativity. I've been thinking about these topics for a lot of years now. Through my work in creative communication, workshop facilitation, fundraising, leadership training, and freelance writing, I've gathered a lot of wisdom and stories from my own experiences and the experiences of the people I've been blessed with knowing.
Heather!
YOU GO!! I think just making this video is totally brave. To put yourself out there like this?! So it shows how very committed you are to your calling and how you are willing to take risks to push yourself.
Excellent example of what you’re talking about here. (oh…a META video, says the English major geek in me!)
Wow. Odd that I would come across this post today, after writing this post earlier this morning. I have felt for some time that I am being “called” in a certain spiritual direction, in spite of my resistance on several fronts.
Thank you so much for posting this.
Nicely done, Heather. I highly recommend Steven Pressfield’s The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles:

It’s ALL about resisitance. When faced with choices I have learned to remind myself that there is an easy choice and there is a right choice.
